Can You Have Too Much Verification?

Can You Have Too Much Verification?

By Scott Cunningham | Tech And Things | 27 Aug 2019

Is there a limit on how much verification is reasonable or rather how much is necessary? Should there be a limit? Is there an objective amount that makes sense or is this purely a subjective debate?

This is a follow up to my previous video discussing whether pseudonyms and avatars are necessary from the perspective of trust and privacy: https://youtu.be/Oi8tM5USMoo
This ties directly into my previous video because full verification would eliminate the option to be anonymous.

I think it's really important to have this conversation not only for new platforms to know what people are looking for but also for existing platforms. Some people say phone verification is too much. Some platforms like Gab have no verification requirements while there are social media platforms that exist currently that require full KYC verification to sign up. Where do we draw the line on what is a reasonable and necessary balance between the two extremes?
