I was confused and couldn't choose a place in Odessa that I would like to talk about first. Privoz, Deribasovskaya, the Opera House and so on. Lots of places that claim to be leaders. But I decided to start with the main street of Odessa - Deribasovskaya.

Names and a few words about the history of the street

Immediately after its birth, the street was called Sadovaya. In 1811, it was renamed Gimnazicheskaya. That is, in honor of the commercial gymnasium. The following year, it was named after its founder, Jose de Ribas. By the way, it was then that the monument to De Ribas was erected. In 1920, the Bolsheviks renamed it Lassalle. But already in 1938, it began to bear the name of the famous pilot Chkalov. In 1941, it was given back its historical name: Deribasovskaya.

Jose de Ribas lived here. After him, Felix de Ribas lived in the house. It is important to note that the cobblestones for the pavement were brought all the way from Naples. Moreover, the granite was from the lava of Vesuvius.

The real center of Odessa is located here. This place is located on the site of the house where Marazli lived. It is located on the corner of Deribasovskaya and Pushkinskaya. Yes, this is the same Grigory Marazli, from whose dacha Lev and Lioness with the kids were transported to the City Garden.

City Garden

In 1803, Felix de Ribas gave a large plot of his own land for the garden. It was built for de Ribas himself, but Felix decided to give it to the city. Now it is a cult place.

In addition to the musical fountain, you can sit here on the 12th chair of Ilf and Petrov. Ostap Bender himself and Kisa greet guests on the quiet alleys. I have already spoken about the lions, but I forgot about Utesov, who invites strollers to sit down next to him and rest.

It is impossible to forget about the Passage. Rumor has it that Faberge himself had a shop here! But alas, this is a myth. The shop was located nearby. But the architecture is amazing. Although, to be honest, all the buildings breathe a mixture of history and modernity. Each house is unique. The buildings have their own history. They are unique. In the future, I plan to tell you about different houses in Odessa in general, and not just Deribasovskaya.
