Blockchains need reasons to exist.

Blockchains need reasons to exist.

I have been in crypto long enugh to be tired of the cycle repeating itself with every eighteen months. New chain, new farm, new token, new whitelist, everyone chasing the same airdrop dopamine, and six months later half of it is dead.

Two things are stacking on top of each other: the AI narrative pulling in capital and attention at a scale, and a slower, quieter shift toward blockchain actually being used as a tool instead of being the product itself. That second part is the one I want to talk about, because I think it's the more important one long term. What might be different about this run, at least to me, is that it's not being pushed by hype alone.

DeFi has been for years a way to trade tokens against other tokens, farm yield that comes from more token emissions, and hopefully you're early enough to exit before the music stops. It works, sort of, but it only really appeals to a small group of people who already understand wallets, gas fees, and impermanent loss.

What's happening now with tokenized stocks feels like a different category. Projects like xStocks on Solana and Arcus on Robinhood Chain aren't asking you to speculate on a governance token nobody's heard of. They're letting you buy an actual fraction of stocks or ETFs for a few dollars, 24/7, from every county, evena country  from countries where opening a brokerage account might take weeks or might not be possible at all. That's not a crypto pitch anymore: is a better way to invest, and blockchain happens to be the foundation that makes it possible.

xStocks already proved there's real demand for this. Backed Finance's tokenized equities went live on Solana with 1:1 backing and instant settlement, and within months the platform had crossed billions in on-chain volume with tens of thousands of holders, plus integrations across wallets, lending markets, and DEXs. People weren't farming for a token, they were buying Apple and Tesla exposure becaus it was cheaper, faster, and available around the clock in a way traditional brokers still can't match.

Airdrop Bonus: collecting points from Xstocks campaign might lead to a potential airdrop (that's one of the reason I'm using this protocol)

Arcus is pushing the same idea a step further by letting those stock tokens double as collateral for perpetual futures, all in one self-custodial account. Hold your stock position, borrow against it, open a leveraged trade, without ever touching a broker or waiting for market hours to open. Whether or not the eventual token airdrop lives up to the hype around it, the underlying product, fractional global access to real assets.

Airdrop Bonus: new chain, backed by Robinhood: high opportunities for an airdrop :

AI has pulled a wave of new capital and new builders into tech generally, and a lot of that attention is spilling into crypto because crypto is where AI agents, on-chain settlement, and programmable money actually intersect. But money doesn't stay excited about abstractions forever.  Real-world assets, actual stocks, actual yield, actual property eventually, give that capital something concrete to hold onto.

It's not the marketing that matters, it's the fact that for the first time, someone in  country with a weak currency or a slow, expensive banking system can hold a fraction of Nvidia in a wallet they control, settle instantly, and use it as collateral, without ever talking to a bank. That's not a small thing. That's one possible actual use case crypto needs fot the next years to come.

If fractional, 24/7, global stock ownership works, and the volume numbers so far suggest it does, property is the next logical target, and I think Ethereum and Solana are natural candidates to improve this economics. Real estate is illiquid, expensive to enter, geographically locked, and full of inermediaries taking a cut at every step. A fraction of a property, tradable on-chain, usable as collateral, settled in seconds instead of weeks, solves problems that stock tokenization only hints at.

We're not there yet at all, but the infrastructure being built right now for stocks, custody, proof-of-reserve, oracle pricing, compliant issuance, is basically the same infrastructure real estate tokenization will need. Once one major platform gets it right, I'd expect adoption to move faster than people expect, because unlike a governance token, everyone already understands what owning a piece of a building means.

I'm not saying every RWA project is legit or that Arcus's eventual token will be worth chasing, I genuinely don't know that yet. What I am saying is that the direction matters more than the specific project. Blockchain stops being a niche tool the mmoment normal people can use it to buy something they actually want, at a price they can afford, without needing to understand what a wallet seed phrase is first. Tokenized stocks are the first version of that working at real scale. Tokenized property is very likely the next one.
