I know this is gonna be controversial because I read a lot of articles here on publish0x about WAX and many of them were positive.
But keep in mind this is just my own opinion based on my own experience.
That said, let's move to the worst features of WAX Cloud Wallet.
1. Sneaky behavior
To use WAX Cloud Wallet you need resources, called RAM, CPU, and NET. Such resources are needed to perform almost any action on the WAX blockchain and thus they run out very quickly.
I found this feature of WAX Cloud Wallet very dishonest. These resources are basically fees masked with other names.
I like honesty: fees are fees and should be called accordingly.
2. Lack of clarity
Since RAM, CPU, and NET are expressed in % there is no clear way to know how much $ you will spend for a certain action.
ETH has outrageously high fees, but at least I can use a calculator/tracker.
3. High fees
As already written, the resources are needed to perform almost any action on the WAX blockchain and all its related dApps.
- You buy an NFT>>> you pay fees
- You sell an NFT>>> you pay fees
- You get an NFT for free (a.k.a. you don't pay the owner)>>> you pay fees
- You connect WAX Cloud Wallet to a dApp>>> you pay fees
I tried to play the famous game called Alien Worlds. In less than 15 minutes I "consumed" all the CPU on my Cloud Wallet. To get it back to 10% I needed to deposit some WAXP and then stake them.
4. Extortion
RAM is the first resource to end and there is no way to earn or get it; the only way to get more RAM is to buy it, using WAXP. Consequently, you are forced to buy WAXP to get RAM.
NET and CPU run out after RAM and you can get them back staking your WAXP tokens. This makes no real difference between those two resources and RAM; actually, you have to buy WAXP and then use it to get RAM, CPU, and NET.
In short, to use WAX Cloud Wallet, you must pay with WAXP.
You could indeed earn WAXP selling some NFT, but I think not anyone is able to make digital art, do the marketing and sell it.
This is not freedom. This can be considered real extortion.
Conclusion
I had a very negative experience with WAX Cloud Wallet and I really don't understand how many people here eulogize it.
It is true that the wallet gives you a 'free' amount of resources to start, but these resources run out very quickly. Consequently, you must pay to use the wallet. This is an absurdity!
We should avoid such services. WAX Cloud Wallet, with its sneaky behavior and high fees, is not better than banks and all the traditional centralized platforms we always criticize.
What really pissed me off was the fact that I had to buy WAXP in order to use the Wallet.
As I said note, I would say that EOS started claiming to be a better alternative to Ethereum, but it seems that everything based on it becomes a failure.
But, as already said, this is just my experience.
