In the world of anime, there are some famous shows like “Attack on Titan”, “Castlevania”, “86”, “One Piece”, “Naruto”, “Bleach” and many more some could think of. These are all masterpieces, no question, yet, it wasn’t how the story of adorable and deriving anime started.
To be honest, some of these anime that I want to introduce here are so old that you might not have been born when they aired.
Ikkyū-San
The most adorable anime that aired in our country a little after 1990. However, this Japanese historical comedy anime series produced by Toei Animation, aired on TV Asahi from October 15, 1975, to June 28, 1982, means it is even older than I imagined.
This delightful and somehow educational show was created on the recorded early life of a Zen Buddhist monk named “Ikkyū” during his stay at Ankoku-ji Temple.
Turns out the real Ikkyū-san was born in 1394 in Kyoto and was the son of Emperor Go-Komatsu, but his mother had to leave the palace, due to political problems. 5 years old Ikkyū got separated from his mother and was sent to be ordained at a Temple.
His intelligence and wit to solve all types of problems made the life of this cute boy fun to watch. If you think about it, he is a breezy, young, and not complicated version of Sherlock Holmz!
The Story of Perrine
The Story of Perrine made by Nippon Animation is even older than the first example (aired back in 1978) spanning 53 episodes. Yet another lovely Japanese anime that has been dubbed into several languages
The anime has been made based on the novel “En Famille” by Hector Malot which is also translated as “Nobody's Girl”
13-year-old Perrine Paindavoine, the daughter of an Anglo-Indian mother, Marie, and a French father, Edmond has to his hometown, Maraucourt, after his parents die one after another (first her father and then his mother on the road). She has an old grumpy grandfather named Vulfran who has a kind heart and this lovely lady comes and makes the best of the situation.
The main character deals with all sorts of difficult situations that are even harder for an adult. She must find happiness, while plenty of hardship and hurdles are in her way.
Katri, Girl of the Meadows
The anime is based on the Finnish novel Paimen, “The Shepherd, the Servant Girl, and the Hostess” by Auni Nuolivaara originally aired in Japan in 1984. There were other anime along with is like Story of the Alps (1983) and Little Princess Sara (1985).
Its style was very friendly and mellow, making it perfect for children. Like other Japanese anime, this one also got a lot of attention and made its way to a lot of different countries. They say, that despite the series being Finnish, it has never been published or broadcast there, and most Finns have never heard of it.
It was about little Katri when her mother had to leave for Germany to work, leaving the little one with her grandparents. At the beginning of the First World War, the family faced very problems, and with no news of the mother, she decided to work on a neighboring farm
The barely 9-year-old works hard, studies, and eventually pursues an education.
