The North Sea Island Amrum

By pSub | Adventures Around the World | 12 Mar 2020

Today I write about the North Sea Island Amrum. It is a small island and blongs to the North Frisian Islands in Germany. This island is worth a visit the whole year. However it makes sense to go there when it is warm enough to enjoy the big beaches and swim in the North Sea. As it is located in the North Sea the beaches also become huge when there is tide. On tide the water backtracks really far. In some places many kilometers and you can reach the neighbor islands by foot.

There are campsites in the dunes as well as nice hotels and apartments. As the island is very small you enjoy it the best when you park your car on the mainland and take the ferry. On the island you can reach everything easily with by bike.

Amrum has a very nice lighthouse that is definitely worth a visit. Even if you are not into lighthouses. Around the lighthouse and basically all along the dunes are very nice wooden paths that invite to explore the island.

On the island you can also see heathland. You can find heathland at quite a few locations in northern Germany. One region is actually called heathland.

There is also a lot of wildlife on the island. For example pheasants.

If you happend to be in northern Germany and want to relax on a small island with a beautiful beach, then give Amrum a try.
