On my eternal quest to stack up a Bitcoin I have used many apps but one app that I have spent the most money and time on is the COIN App. I have touched on most of the many features in some capacity. I already wrote about the Gamified Travel feature back in January of this year, but I wanted to touch on it again. This time I was on a basic plan and I wanted to see how that would change the outcome.
In September of 2024 I had a cousin's wedding in Cambridge UK. The journey was going to take me close to 8 hours and exactly 5710.36 kilometres as the crow flies. I was travelling with my girlfriend, who still does not know of this project- hopefully you can keep a secret- So I couldn't mine for the whole flight. I didn't want to pay $20 for the inflight wifi just to mine $1.75 worth of XYO anyways. That is how I came to the conclusion to try gamified travel. I typed in the address and upon arrival I would hook into the hotel wifi and collect whatever the reward is.
To my surprise, using a free account did not decrease the reward. Don't get me wrong 70 COIN is not much. An optimist would say it is 0.7% of a COIN app withdrawal. With the advantage of not paying for my account I don't feel the pressure to grind as hard or consistently. It took me all of 4 seconds, after that it was basically a passive activity.
So may as well try it again on the way home. We spent a few days in Bath UK. Bath is further West than Cambridge so I guessed I would be getting 65 COIN.
The trip home from Bath is longer, but less kilometers between the two point on a map. So I was very surprised to see that when I got home and picked up the geodrop, i received 100 COIN. Which is my fully day target when using the free account.
I wouldn't use the Gamified travel feature for trips under 3 hours. If I am driving and can have my phone running, I can geomine more points. But if I am flying, I will always use Gamified Travel. This is a rare instance when the feature works better for free accounts than it does for a paid one. I really thought it was a waste of time when I was paying, but now I like it.
