1BTC Project - COIN App Gamified Travel and Geoclaiming.

Late in 2023, about a week ago at the time of writing, I blogged quickly about the things COIN app needs to improve. I was about to leave the country to vacation in the Dominican Republic for New Years and thought I would use the trip to drill down on two features that have always slightly confused me.

Geoclaim

If you are on XYO/COIN twitter (X), you will find accounts claiming to make 10K + in COIN per week using the geoclaiming feature. I have never understood how. I live in the biggest city in Canada so I never Geoclaiming has never been a profitable endeavor at home. Even when I maxed out my Geoclaim the percentage of ownership was still too small for me to make a profit.

However, I found myself on a Carribean Island with a willing partner in crime as I was rooming with my brother for a week. I convinced him to download the app a year ago but he is not very active. My strategy was to have his account own the district and my account churn geomines.

This strategy was successful. As there was no other accounts in the area he managed to claim the area for 5 COIN. On my account I was mining 500 to 700 COIN per day. There were other activities to partake in and I could only mine when on wifi. Using this two account method I managed to turn a healthy profit.

We managed to turn 5 COIN into 71.55 in just a few days.

This supports a hypothesis I have had for a while. Geoclaiming works when you have a healthy amount of isolation and collusion. I was not geomining that aggressively, but still manages to make 1320% ROI. If I could own 100% of the Geoclaim zone in which I lived I could easily mine 1500 COIN per day which would produce 1050 COIN per week in Geoclaim rewards or an ROI of 20,900%. These numbers don't come close to what I see on Twitter, but way better than the negative returns I have traditionally seen when trying to use this feature.

Gamified Travel

This is another feature I have never enjoyed. I have used it on occasion, but only locally. The returns have been low. between 1 and 5 COIN. Seeing as I was in the Dominican I thought, "how much COIN would I get if I gamified my travel home." Surely this feature is meant for longer halls than commuting intra-city.

So on the day I left, while sitting in the lobby of the resort, I told the app i was travelling home. the hypothesis was that the longer the journey the great the reward. I had to travel 2,976 kilometers so the reward should be worth it.

On arriving home I did confirm my hypothesis. I was given significantly more COIN for this trip than I have ever gotten from this feature. My reward was 86 COIN. Although higher, it still felt low.

On the 7th I had to drive to and from Hamilton Ontario. So I thought why not. I have to focus on the road, so I may as well let have the app give me a few COIN for my troubles. This would be a good opportunity to retest my hypothesis. This time I would be driving 70 Kms. I expected a reward of 5-10 COIN. but received 32 COIN for the trip.

The result was strange. Perhaps because I was actively geomining on my drive and not my flight I received a better reward. I don't know. These results are eyebrow raising. Is Gamified Travel worth it? I would say yes, if you are not going to be active let the feature run passively. But the reward structure still is not clear.

I would say use it for any intercity or international travel, but it is more of a nuisance in the day-to-day.
