Here's a list of six common phrases that show you lack self confidence. Try avoiding them and people will start to respect you more:
- "Just": this word is a minimizer. You minimize yourself and your desires/needs. Pay attention when writing emails/SMS if you're using them.
- The use of "I was wondering" or "I was thinking" instead of asking directly what you want
- Filler words (ah, uhm, like): it's better to replace them with silence
- "I'm sorry" or "I'm sorry but": don't use it to appease people without really asking yourself if you've done something wrong
- "You probably don't care (but)": falls into the category of qualifiers before sharing anything, like "I'm sure you won't like it" or "don't expect too much". Either don't say it or develop the confidence to share your story with enthusiasm.
- "My _____ is making me" (boss, girlfriend, etc. is making me): by saying something in this way you're putting yourself into the position of someone who's servant of somebody else. Instead realize that even if someone is pushing you to do something, understand that you have the ultimate choice
