The Crxillion Club Revisited: MetaHub Musings

By -Zemus- | -Blockchain for Everyone- | 23 Jul 2022

The Crxillion Club broke ground on January 14th, 2022, meeting Cronos’ competitive NFT market head-on in the process. Today, it’s an all-embracing, feline fellowship with a loyal body of support throughout the blockchain. Anyone may join, but there’s an important caveat for entry: space is at a premium. NFT aficionados and prospective owners take note: The club’s latest uptick in social media coverage revealed skyrocketing appreciation with comparable demand. Namely, a sale involving Crxillion #2007 landed 69,420 CRO, worth $8654 USD, at the time of writing. A total of 2600 NFTs were minted; 2500 for public sale. 100 more were set aside for Crodex’ promotional pursuits. I won my first that way, via Twitter contest, but ended up selling to a fellow member for peanuts (try to avoid doing that). Weeks later, I spent the afternoon browsing Ebisu’s Bay for a replacement when, lo and behold; a must-have listing too good to pass up! The asking price was a bargain, budget constraints were a non-issue and my timing was impeccable. The scenario was sound as a bell, but I started having second thoughts as my cursor hovered over the ‘Buy Now’ text. Was it high network fees? Not at all. Potential buyer’s remorse? No, that wasn’t it either. A perceivably mundane use case; that’s what cinched it. That’s the reason I couldn’t proceed. I’m firm in my conviction that NFTs should offer a departure from the norm, and uncommon attributes with staking incentives felt like, well, more of the same. I’m not that complicated, I just like a little novelty for my hard-earned money. Give me features that bolster innovation for once. Do something, anything, to push the envelope of ERC-721’s capabilities and I’ll commit; tripling down on my wallet’s confirm button for good measure.

Whether coveted character or spur-of-the moment sale, what convinced you to buy your first Crxillion? For some, it must’ve been the accessories: a flashy necklace, dual plasma swords or a corn cob pipe that spoke to their personal tastes. Others viewed them as collector’s items, the type of commodity suitable for long-term investment. Back then, our decision-making process was somewhat linear. Most of us settled for digital clothing and speculative value; no-one conceived of a project overhaul transcending both. If you thought the club was limited to VIP rewards and rarity scores, you thought wrong; that was only the beginning. Crodex has higher aspirations for its original NFT collection.

Along with Web3, GameFi is a making rounds in every corner of crypto media. The total market cap rose to 55.38 billion USD in February alone, with plenty of upside potential through 2022. The Cronosverse, too, kicked things off in a big way. Their buildout has been instrumental in shaping GameFi’s progression on Cronos. Behind the scenes, they've been working with Crodex on a GameFi app that’ll see the Crxillion Club at its best, guaranteed. They call it Metaverse Hub, or MetaHub 2.0, denoting its latest iteration; Crodex’ very own play-to-earn, DeFi app. $MHUB is the official, in-game currency; you can read through the details here. They have plans for mini-games, artifacts and a revamped UI, just to name a few.

These elements connote a number of possibilities, but raise more questions than answers. Eager for team feedback, I sought the opinion of Pompey, Crodex’ community manager and self-styled wild card. “Metaverse hub offers a gamified defi experience with a story, that will be quite intuitive to participate for any blockchain investor.” Lucrative game-play featuring the Crxillion Club should attract audiences from all walks. If Pompey is correct, there’ll be a little something for everyone. He added: “I say that because some find gaming aspect too much of a hassle while some long for it. Metaverse Hub aims to embrace them all.”

Specifics surrounding side quests, story-lines and user interface are points of conjecture, but recent video footage sheds some light on their (the developers) handiwork. Tune in to watch a Crxillion traversing an action-packed, three-dimensional landscape with all the trimmings. It’s outdoorsy, yet urban, and speaks to my inner-gamer. By the 2:08 mark, I was grinning from ear-to-ear. Think tall trees, majestic mountains and luxurious towers, several of which were constructed on site. The entire thing feels like an amalgamation of the classics. If Sim-City fused with Grand Theft Auto 3 and added a musical theme fit for an Elder Scrolls title, Metaverse Hub wouldn’t stray far from the finished product.

While an official date is uncertain, Metahub is slated for release sometime before month’s end.
