Rumors of a ghastly partnership were confirmed when a project known for its oracle network joined forces with the nether realm. Twitter and Medium were first to reveal the news: Chainlink and Aavegotchi in tandem! Bound together by a system touted for breakthrough innovations in non-fungible token utility, Chainlink’s Verifiable Random Function adds a new dimension to the Aavegotchi metaverse. The alliance not only harmonizes 8-bit apparition with collateralized asset, it is challenging our perception of decentralized finance.
Otherwise known as VRF, Verifiable Random Function calls on a cryptographic proof offering highly desired benefits: End-to-end security, transparency and randomized data that’s authentically random. But, VRF is more than the sum of its parts. In fact, the function does some of its best work in concert with other systems due to its interoperability. Streamlined assimilation between node operators and data requestors promotes the exchange of reliable data with the added bonus of hardening for any Etheruem based project. Verifiable Random Fren, Aavegotchi’s personalized iteration, takes advantage of this property by shaping game play mechanics for raffle contests and character trait assignment:
1)Raffle winners
There are three raffle events planned where users’ staking rewards are entered for a chance to win rare wearables. Fair distribution is a major consideration here: Attack vectors could tamper with prize allocation in a way that draws solely from ticket numbers held by the adversary. In this regard, VRF operates like an eligibility fail-safe using On-chain Randomness to prevent bad actors from winning every prize. Participants can, by design, enter raffles with the assurance of provably fair odds.
2)Selecting traits
Players will use some of their GHST tokens to purchase portals. Each portal summons ten Aavegotchi distinguished by staked collateral type and traits including energy, brain size, spookiness, etc. Through a number of block confirmations, VRF guarantees a randomized selection that’s uniquely different from one portal to the next. While most players would enjoy drawing Aavegtochi with favorable characteristics from the outset, VRF incentivizes organic development through game play in the metaverse.
The Aavegothchi Mainnet launches sometime in January. When it does, the system will leverage Chainlink’s Verifiable Random Function for unbiased game play and randomized conditions delivered in a secure way.
