AWS, Amazon Web Services, crashed today and took down half of the Internet with it. Services like Coinbase, Robinhood, Venmo, Snapchat, Fortnite, and many, many more all reported being affected by the crash. Some are speculating that it was a DDOS attack on AWS, but as of now that is unconfirmed. Coinbase users were locked out of their accounts unable to access any of their trades. Coinbase customer service said "We're aware many users are currently unable to access Coinbase due to an AWS outage. Our team is working on the issue and we'll provide updates here. All funds are safe."
There are also reports of Crypto chains being affected by the outage, leading people to question just how 'decentralised' they actually are.
Strategy have announced on X that they bought more Bitcoin. "Strategy has acquired 168 BTC for ~$18.8 million at ~$112,051 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 26.0% YTD 2025. As of 10/19/2025, we hodl 640,418 $BTC acquired for ~$47.40 billion at ~$74,010 per bitcoin."
