Post #62: The Night I Stayed Up Watching a Chart Until Sunrise

Crypto has a way of stealing your time, your focus, and sometimes your sleep. One night stands out clearly in my memory the night I stayed up watching a chart until the sun came up.

It started innocently. I was getting ready to sleep and thought, “let me just check the charts real quick before bed.” Famous last words. The coin I was watching was moving like crazy big green candles followed by sudden dips. It was unpredictable and exciting.

I told myself I’d just watch one more candle close before shutting the laptop. Then another. And another. Every time I thought about walking away, I convinced myself the next move could be the one that makes or breaks me.

Hours passed. My eyes burned from staring at the screen. My heart raced with every tick of the price. At one point I actually placed a trade, panicked, and exited minutes later. By the time the sun was coming up outside my window, I hadn’t slept at all. And worse, my portfolio was down from the messy decisions I made in the heat of the moment.

That was the night I realized something important: if you can’t step away from the screen, the market owns you. It’s one thing to be passionate, but another to let obsession take over your health, your energy, and your peace of mind.

Since then, I’ve made a rule for myself. I set alerts. I use stop losses. I take profit targets. If I can’t sleep without staring at the screen, it means I don’t really trust my plan. And if I don’t trust my plan, then I probably shouldn’t be in the trade in the first place.

The truth is, no opportunity is worth your well-being. The market will be here tomorrow. But your clarity, focus, and energy won’t be if you burn them out.

I know I’m not the only one who has lost sleep to this game. If you’ve ever been glued to the screen all night waiting for the “perfect” entry or exit, you know how draining it can be. Share your story below I’d love to know how you broke out of that cycle.

And if this hit home for you, I’d really appreciate a tip. Every little bit helps me keep writing these raw, honest stories about the side of crypto most people don’t talk about.

I started this space because I genuinely believe $XELIS is something special. It's one of those projects that caught my attention and just stuck with me — not just for the tech, but for what it stands for: privacy, decentralization, and doing things a little differently. This blog isn’t meant to be overly technical or full of hype. I just wanted a place to share what I’m learning, keep up with what’s happening in the ecosystem, and maybe connect with others who are just as curious (or confused!) as I was
