So I did a thing.
I decided to try living entirely on crypto for a week. No fiat. No debit card. Just pure, raw, beautiful (and sometimes painfully dysfunctional) crypto.
Why? Because I was curious.
Because I wanted to prove it could be done.
And maybe… because I’m a little bit unhinged.
Day 1 – “This will be fun!”
I woke up excited. Wallet loaded. Plan ready. First stop: coffee.
The barista looked at me like I had asked to pay with sand.
“No, we don’t take… what? Bitcoin? Nah, man. We take cards.”
Cool. Great start. I ended up tipping him in fiat from my emergency stash. Already breaking the rules. Amazing.
Day 2 – DeFi doesn't buy dinner
Spent half the day trying to move some USDC from Arbitrum to a network where I could actually use it. Bridged. Waited. Prayed.
Finally got it onto a crypto debit card. Ordered takeout.
Gas fees: $4.
Dinner: $12.
Sense of accomplishment: priceless.
Day 3 – Crypto ≠ convenient
I needed groceries.
Tried buying a voucher using BTC. The site I used? Sketchy. The voucher? Didn’t work.
Dinner that night: peanut butter on toast and resentment.
Day 4 – The "aha" moment
I used a platform where I could pay rent in stablecoins. The landlord didn’t understand it but was weirdly okay with “getting something digital.”
He said, “as long as I can convert it and it doesn’t vanish overnight.”
I said, “same.”
Day 5 – Low-key loving it
At this point, I’d figured some stuff out.
-
Crypto.com card = lifesaver
-
Prepaid gift cards = surprisingly useful
-
Brave rewards + Publish0x tips = yes, YOU helped me buy a sandwich 😭
Day 6 – But then came gas
Wanted to swap a token. $2.40 transaction.
Gas: $27.
I sat there, staring at the screen, rethinking every decision that led to this point in my life.
Still did it.
Why? Because I’m stubborn and I believe. Also because I was hungry.
Day 7 – Would I do it again?
Yes… but maybe with better planning. Or in El Salvador.
Crypto works. The tech is getting better. But living on it? Still kinda like skateboarding on a tightrope. With fire underneath. While blindfolded.
But weirdly, I loved it.
Final Thoughts
Crypto isn’t just money. It’s movement. It’s mindset.
It forces you to think, adapt, problem-solve, and occasionally scream into a pillow.
Would I recommend it?
Only if you're part philosopher, part degen, and fully committed.
If you read this far… thanks.
If you tipped this post… you literally fed me during this experiment.
If you laughed or nodded or thought “same,” then we’re already connected in this weird, wonderful web3 world.
Here’s to the chaos. The progress. The potential.
And maybe next time? I’ll try surviving a week using only memecoins. God help me.
