tl;dr: NFTs are here to stay, but they won’t solely be on Ethereum.

Ethereum is a wonderful proving ground for so many innovative use cases. Smart contracts, DeFi, NFTs.

But the network is essentially unusable for all but the richest players.

As I’ve called it before, it’s crypto Wall Street.

And like lower Manhattan, it will have connections to all other types of financial centers.

One of the connections will be to “NFT world” or, perhaps better said, “NFT Worlds.”

These will be custom chains that are “all-in-one” offerings for minting, burning, and listing NFTs at low cost.

Recently, the team at Enjin, which has been in the crypto game for a while now, announced “Efinity,” which is an NFT-specific blockchain on the Polkadot network, designed to be a hub for NFTs from any chain.

Another offering, with a more B2B focus, is Unique Network, also on Polkadot and Kusama.

In some respects, we’re entering into the next phase of Web 3.0. We’re done with the “Proof of Concept” phase and my bet is that it’s going to be a multi-chain world.

We’ll have NFT chains, we’ll have purpose-built DeFi chains (like Radix-discl: advisor), and gaming chains (e.g. Flow).

They will all interoperate with each other via Polkadot, Cosmos or others and, together, form the “metaverse” of digital assets.
