Flavors of the Crypto-Epiphany

tl;dr: Everyone’s path is different. Everyone’s moment of epiphany is different. Everyone’s epiphany is the same.

There comes a point in the journey towards the Crypto Futura where one realizes that the arrival of crypto-economic systems is inevitable.

Flavors of Crypto-Epiphany

For some people, it’s the first time they effortlessly switch between applications using MetaMask or Fortmatic without having to set up a new account or know a password. You just show up at the application and start using it.

For others, it’s when they send their first international payment.

I remember, early on in my crypto journey, one time when I had two foreign clients, each of whom owed me approximately $1,000.  One of them, based in Switzerland, insisted on sending a wire. Three weeks later, after two failed attempts and $71 in fees, I received the payment.

Meanwhile, the other, based in the UK, agreed to send the value in the form of Ether.  Ten seconds later and at a fee of $0.04, I had the money.

Still others look at external signs of market validation, such as the stories from the Office of Comptroller of Currency, Visa, Mastercard,  PayPal and Venmo as it relates to crypto. In one month, that’s a lot of attention coming into the asset class.

Yet, despite the faith that comes from personal experience and market validation, perhaps the most powerful aspect of living in the Crypto Futura is that you don’t need to take things on faith.

Crypto assets are perfectly suited for a world of low or no trust (sad as that may be).

Their existence, provenance, status, location, and more are all instantly and provably verifiable by inspecting the public blockchain, whether it is BitcoinEthereumZcash, or any of the others.
