9/11: Still Surreal

By newb0Xsir | Written Words | 12 Sep 2021

Even 20 years later…

Been watching a lot of the documentaries on the History Channel.
One documentary that was especially interesting was the first-hand accounts from the “9/11: I Was There” episode.
Various New Yorkers with camcorders capturing the tragedy as it happened definitely brought new perspective for me. Even though I remember the day it happened while I was in my Grade 5 home room, I never seen it from this angle before.
What I also found interesting is the diversity in the first-hand account depending on how each witness was facing the burning towers. There were some college students that saw the explosion of the south tower but not the plane they hit the tower, so they presumed it was a bomb.
Then throw on the terror, panic, dust cloud evasions and city-wide evacuation. No wonder it felt like a movie to some. Walking around the streets of Manhattan, trying to make you way to the Brooklyn bridge, not sure if other planes are on their way to hit more skyscrapers. What a shock to the system.
However, even after this major tragedy, New York remained strong and continues to remain strong to this day.
9/11 will never be forgotten and I do hope to someday visit the great city.
