28 year-old Pyae Sone Win Maung, a driver collecting Covid-19 monitoring samples on behalf of the World Health Organization (WHO), was killed and another health worker was injured after their well-marked United Nations vehicle was hit by gunfire near a military checkpoint in the township of Minbya of the Rakhine State, Myanmar. United Nations spokespeople say that the escalation of fighting between the nation's military and the Arakan Army group has resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians.

Meanwhile, both the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army denied involvement, instead blaming each other for the death other WHO driver. Myanmar Major-General Tun Tun Nyi stated that "They (WHO)" are working for us, for our country" and that his troops had no reason to engage the United Nations vehicle. On the other hand, a statement by the Arakan Army said that the "Myanmar Army fired with small weapons" and that "The Arakan Army found and rescued them an hour after the incident and provided them with medical treatment."
As of now, the United Nations has not accused either side of the attack.
