A 52 year-old Tanzanian small-scale independent miner named Saniniu Laizer who became an overnight millionaire this June for selling two Tanzanite stones worth the equivalent of 3.4 million United States dollars to the nation's Ministry of Minerals has successfully sold another massive rough gemstone for the equivalent of about 2 million United States dollars. This third stone weighed 6.3 kilograms (about 14 pounds), and was also sold to the Tanzanian Ministry of Minerals.
In June, Mr. Laizer announced that despite making the incredible finds, he would not change his lifestyle, and said that he would invest some of his earnings into his community in the Simanjiro district of Manyara. He stated that "I want to build a shopping mall and a school. I want to build this school near my home. There are many poor people around here who can't afford to take their children to school." Since then, local reports indicate that Mr. Laizer has helped set up two schools in his community.
This times, Mr. Laizer said that he would use some of the newly earned money to help build a health facility in his community.
