On Saturday, September 19th, 2020, Taiwan's air force scrambled jets for a second consecutive day as 19 Chinese aircraft crossed the midline of the Taiwan Strait and approached the island. Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense said that whole no Chinese aircraft flew over the island, 18 Chinese aircraft were spotted on September 18th while 19 were spotted on September 19th, with some crossing the midline and others entering Taiwan's air defense identification zone. The latest incident involved a dozen Chinese Shenyang J-16 fighters, 2 Chengdu J-10 fighters, 2 Shenyang J-11 fighters, 2 Xian H-6 jet bombers, and a Shaanxi Y-8 transport aircraft.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense said that China had carried out provocative activities, and damaged peace and stability. They also condemned China's actions, urging them to "pull back from the edge". On the other hand, the Global Times, a tabloid newspaper published by the Chinese Communist Party's People's Daily newspaper, said that latest "drill" was not a warning, but a "rehearsal for Taiwan takeover".
