Russia has recorded a record 10,633 new covid-19 coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, marking the highest daily increase of cases since the virus entered the nation. As of now, Russia has reported a total of 134,686 confirmed cases of covid-19, making it the seventh highest count in the world alongside 1,280 Covid-19-related deaths.
The capital city of Moscow has been hit hard by the virus, with just under 69,000 confirmed cases. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reminded citizens to follow lockdown protocol as the capital city has "not passed the peak" of the epidemic.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended a nationwide non-working period until May 11th, 2020, though he stated this may be subject to change depending on the number of cases and rate of transmission in about a week. He also said that the government will consider gradually lifting restrictions on select regions starting on May 12th, 2020, though this may also be subject to change.
