Lebanon will be reinstating a 4-day lockdown starting on May 13th, 2020, after the nation experienced a resurgence of Covid-19 coronavirus cases. Information Minister Manal Abdel Samad urged citizens to "stay home and avoid going out except for urgent cases" while Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that over 100 new cases were recorded in the past 4 days. President Hassan Diab also accused some of ignoring social distancing guidelines, showing "negligence and lack of responsibility". Local media speculate that the upward trend may partly be due to expatriates arriving from overseas on repatriation flights.  

Restaurants and food deliveries will be shut down, while many places of worship and businesses will also temporarily cease operations. However, supermarkets, the agriculture sector, the industrial sector, and other essential service will be permitted to continue operations for the duration of the lockdown. Plans to reopen the nation's economy will be reviewed, and the lockdown may be extended if necessary. Currently, Lebanon has 870 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus alongside 26 Covid-19-related deaths.
