Four gunmen armed with automatic rifles and explosives attempted to attack the Pakistani stock exchange in Karachi, killing three people and wounding seven others before being shot dead by security forces. According to official police reports, the assailants used grenades at the main gate of the building and opened fire without discrimination, but failed to reach the trading floor of the stock exchange. Local media reports indicate that the attackers also carried food alongside weaponry, suggesting they may have intended to take hostages and lay siege to the stock exchange.

Omer Ahmed Bukhari, the director-general of the paramilitary Sindh Rangers force stated that the attackers were stopped in under 8 minutes. The Balock Liberation Army (BLA) militant group has claimed responsibility over the attack. The motive of the attack is still under investigation.
