Bus Plunges into Reservoir in China, Killing 21

A bus travelling on a bridge in Anshun, the Guizhou province, China, crashed through a roadside barrier and plunged into a reservoir, resulting in at least 21 confirmed deaths and 15 injuries. As of now, it is unclear how many people were on the bus at the time of the crash and the cause of the incident is still under investigation, but local Chinese media reported that those onboard included students who were scheduled to take the "gaokao" university and college entrance examinations.

The Guizhou Fire Department said that 141 rescue personnel including 19 divers were deployed to the scene of the crash, and is still currently performing search and rescue alongside body recovery efforts. Chinese state media say that the drive is among the dead, and had worked on that particular bus route since 1997. Video footage showed that the vehicle was initially travelling slowly on the road before making a sharp left turn, crossing over 6 lanes of a road, slamming through the safety barrier, and plunging into water.
