At least 7 people are confirmed dead while over 40 others are reported injured after an overturned fuel tanker truck exploded near the town of Pueblo Viejo, Colombia. The injured have been transported to several local medical facilities as investigations are now underway. Colombian reports suggest that the death toll may climb as several of the injured are in serious condition.
According to local police spokespeople, the fuel truck first overturned, though the cause is still under investigation. People from in and around the town later gathered around the vehicle to attempt to collect spilled fuel when the truck burst into flames and exploded. Officials say that some people ignored police warnings of dangers, and continued to collect fuel from the tanker.
