A court in Ghana has fined six Nigerians the equivalent of $2,500 United States dollars each for attending a birthday party in Teshie suburb of the capital city of Accra despite a 3-week lockdown implemented to combat the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus. The court stated that if they cannot pay the fine, they will face a 5-year prison sentence.

Police forces said that at least 50 people were actually present at the party, but security forces were only able to detain 6 people.
Meanwhile, lockdown protocols are slowly being relaxed as Ghana lifts some movement and travel restrictions placed in some parts of the nation. However, the ban on public gatherings, school operations, and border services are still in force. As of now, just under 1050 people in Ghana have tested positive for Covid-19 while 9 people are confirmed dead.
