World Health Organization Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced in Geneva, Switzerland, that the official name of the 2019-nCoV (Also known as the Novel Coronavirus or informally known as the Wuhan Coronavirus) will be "Covid-2019". The WHO chief stated that the new "pronounceable" name does not refer to any geographical location, animal, or group of people to help avoid confusion and reduce stigmatization.

As of now, at least 1,350 people around the world have been killed by Covid-2019 while there are well over 58,000 confirmed cases in over two dozen nations. The death toll of Covid-2019 has overtaken that of the 2003 SARS outbreak. Currently, about 80% of all cases in China are within the Hubei Province.
