Air India Express Flight IX-1344 with service from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to the Kozhikode (Calicut) International Airport in India's Kerala state, skidded off the runway upon landing and broke into two, resulting in at least 17 deaths and 137 injuries. Among the dead are the two pilots. Local reports say that about 15 people have suffered serious injuries. The Boeing 737-8HG carried 185 passengers and 6 crew members when it crashed at about 17:40 local time.

According to local sources, the aircraft circled around the airport several times and made two landing attempts due to the heavy monsoon rainfall. Once the aircraft finally touched down, it overshot the runway, plunged down a 10.6 meter slope (about 35 feet), and broke into two. No fire was reported at the crash site.
