Kenya's police inspector general has ordered an investigation and forensic analysis of all firearms held by officers on duty in the Huruma-Mathare area of Nairobi after the shooting and subsequent death of a 13 year-old boy named Yasin Hussein Moyo. According to local sources, the boy was playing on the balcony and watching police officers below when he was shot in the abdomen by a live round as police units enforced a 19:00 to 06:00 local time curfew amid the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. He later died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.  

While senior police official Philip Ndolo told Kenya's Citizen TV that the boy "was accidentally hit by a ricochet as police were trying to disperse a gang who had defied the curfew directive", several local critics are questioning why police were sent with live rounds and the legitimacy of the official report. Human rights groups and Kenya's Ministry of Health condemned the actions of the police force, with Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe saying that "People must be treated humanely".  

As of now, Kenya has at least 1 death and 59 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus. To help with financial hardships during the pandemic, Kenya has reduced the VAT from 16% to 14% effective April 1st, 2020, provided 100% tax relief to citizens earning under KSh 24,000 (About $230 USD), and lowered the Central Bank Rate from 8.25% to 7.25%.
