With the ever advancing world around us both at work and at home, especially amongst day traders and short term traders who stay glued to the screen, there has been a surge in the use of caffeine products of all kinds. Caffeine is a natural alkaloid occuring naturally in about 60 plants, such as cocoa beans, coffee beans, tea leaves and kola nuts amongst others ("Sources of caffeine", 2020). Family tell you to moderate it, doctors tell you to watch it and the rest are ignorant to whatever effects caffeine has on one's cognitive functions and body in general. Just like everything else caffeine has its extremes and moderations, one can overdose or use the caffeine for its healing properties although it's not a coin flip situation, it's entangled in our lives if not immediate then it's by association.

This point of debate is as old as caffeine and it will be long debated in the future but facts remain facts that caffeine is classified as a legal drug as its psychoactive, it's a central nervous system stimulant, caffeine also stimulates certain portions of the autonomic nervous system. Generally what caffeine does is block the action of adenosine at its receptor, subsequently preventing the onset of drowsiness induced by adenosine, thus the hype. In moderation caffeine is beneficial for the ones seeking the extra hours to be more productive, more present, more activated by the blockage of the action of adenosine thus resulting in the hype to stay glued to the screen as the candlesticks form. But caffeine does more than keep you awake, as research studies found that the mood enhancing effect of caffeine is linked to a 45% decrease in suicide (Pietrangelo, 2020).

The extremes of caffeine are extremely based on age, weight, overall health as caffeine is used by many athletes as a go to enhancement in energy drinks and shakes. Almost every research and article on caffeine is about the deterioration caused by the prolonged overuse of caffeine such as hallucinations, confusion, anxiety and irritability. Over time prolonged usage causes conditions such as osteoporosis, ulcers, heart palpitations, achy muscles, miscarriages amongst other conditions, as research studies report that all this is almost directly correlated with the frequency of consumption and the potency of the caffeine dosage taken
(Pietrangelo, 2020).

Caffeine has healing properties mainly because of the antioxidant properties of its metabolites theobromine and xanthine that promotes wound healing, cognitive performance, burns fat, lower risk of Parkinson syndrome, post exercise recovery amongst other healing properties (Nichols, 2017). There is evidence that caffeine may help protect people from eye disorders, help prevent skin cancers, cirrhosis amongst other diseases prevented by coffee.

In conclusion much like everything else, the extremes of coffee come to cause the deteriorating effects from lack of moderation or simple overuse. Osteoporosis, achy muscles, hallucinations, anxiety, irritability, ulcers are amongst the conditions caused by excess caffeine intake over time. Caffeine is just another legal and unregulated drug that is consumed on the daily for enhanced cognitive function, wakefulness, relief from drowsiness thereby increasing alertness.
