EOSwriter: EOS & The World After COVID: Is EOSIO a Possible Socio-Economic Solution?

By Thomas Wolf | Thomas Wolf's Den | 27 Dec 2020

Like most who became involved with cryptocurrencies before 2012, I started with Bitcoin.  It has remained an integral part of the movement and markets; however, today, I am changing my stance from a kodiak bear of a crypto flipper to a soldier for EOS & EOSIO blockchain tech.

“I was asked once, 'you're a smart man, why aren't you rich?' I replied, 'you're a rich man, why aren't you smart?” ― Jacque Fresco

This morning I took one look at Bitcoin hot on its heels to its next all-time high and realized doing nothing but chasing small gains via flipping and being a coin collector out of the hopes for exponential growth was no longer sufficient for my purposes.  I purchased another 100 EOS on CoinbasePro.  At some point, one must commit to a currency, even if loyalties change over time.  Seeing as I’ve had plenty of time to evaluate cryptocurrencies, my eyes are now on what should and will be in the times to come.

EOS tends not to correlate with Bitcoin as much as other “altcoins,” which is a term I have never particularly cared for as it groups all other cryptocurrencies into one when they have different purposes and functionalities.  I find this to be grossly inappropriate, especially with respect to currencies that have evolved as much as EOS with the sole intention of being superior in every way.  I am not saying I won’t continue to stack sats, but my attitude on “earning & profits” has changed.

When I came back to crypto after a long absence from society where I had an extreme amount of time and solitude to reflect, I knew I wanted to make a difference in the world.  Analyzing personal values, I quickly realized that innovation and technology were my best friends, second only to nature.  I decided to go back to school to become a biologist and engineer with the sole intention of integrating with the scientific community and obtaining access to the resources necessary to achieve my goal of bridging the gap between technology and nature.

This contradiction may seem hard to believe, but I’ve never cared about money and was raised with socialist values on one hand and heavy capitalist values on the other.  Despite the leftist touch in this particular independent, I’ve focused on many currencies since my return.  Until EOS, Nano was hands-down my number one pick for an environmentally friendly currency - until I saw the vision behind EOS and, in particular - EOSIO blockchain software architecture.  It’s clear to me we share the same values and, inadvertently, the same goals.

Some of you may love nothing more than cashing out to a bank and hitting the ATM for some hard, cold cash, as I used to enjoy thoroughly.  Now, on the other hand, I would love nothing more than to watch it burn (or be recycled or repurposed, ideally) as it has been rendered obsolete through technology.  We can now perform massive amounts of transactions in nearly an instant worldwide and do not require the need for tangibility outside essential material possessions, which I find to be abused by consumers.  I can spot an addict from a mile away; most people are heavily addicted to the idealism that enough money or enough things will make them happy.

By the age of 21, I had become independently wealthy; I won’t go into the details - but I lost it all by 23 due to addiction; I’ll have eight years in April of 2021.  I’ll never forget that sinking feeling when I realized all the money in the world wasn’t going to fix the emptiness inside of me.  I am far from a hardcore minimalist, I love to grab up any new useful tech as it comes along, and I am an aspiring inventor.  The point of bridging the gap between technology and nature was to fix this crucial flaw in our ideals and preserve nature, possibly like wolves and offer dominion to the natural world.  Yes, EOS is a currency and holds value.  I am investing for a new reason now:  To build a better future.

While writing my first EOS to The Layman article, I was in shock at how much the EOSIO blockchain software goals aligned with my own.  Practical uses for the tech began running through my mind in a wave of images, visions of a better future.  I have long followed The Venus Project (a socio-economic system) while promoting a resource-based economy and one thing that is discussed by its founder; the now-late Jacque Fresco.  Fresco discussed how language needed to become universal so that we would make progress without additional confusion and delays through translation, as well as religious and cultural differences that make a dramatic impact on delaying such progress.

The Venus Project is an excellent idea, but there are 6,500+ languages in use on this planet in 2020.  An estimated 7.83 billion people live, polluting, and most have faded from nature entirely.  I’ve written some reasonably impressive papers for my college courses.  The wall I continually run into is that people disagree due to their varying views, which directly delays technological and environmental progress and negative consequences to many other things. These differences end in failures to deliver solutions, causing continued conflict, resulting in delays, violence, and a never-ending cycle of retribution.

My college curriculum has been a significant disappointment.  I am self-educated, and I often feel I am wasting precious time on my degrees despite my goals.  Challenge authority, question the answers; you’ll be surprised at how flawed they are in many respects, and you may quickly find yourself in a similar position.  I continuously contemplate leaving traditional schooling behind as it directly slows down my education; this comes with a host of problems that keep me in school, boiling down to the degrees and much-needed money to survive on.  They do not call us starving students for no reason.  Still, I am grateful I wasn’t born rich; I would have learned very little in life.

The greatest thing that EOSIO can offer is not limited to local agroecology systems, which, as I’ve previously mentioned, holds excellent potential; however, upon further examination, I believe I have discovered the answer to Fresco’s problem on a universal language.  Using mathematics, we can use an EOSIO blockchain-based system to help calculate the best use of resources worldwide and implement fair voting in all 6,500+ languages so that all of the world’s peoples can maintain their core values, respective native languages, and beliefs. Simultaneously, we can advance further than ever before economically using a fair, accountable system to allocate our resources best.

I never said it would be easy, but if we don’t start thinking about the long-term, there won't be one; we are in an existential crisis while destroying our environment.  Imagine the world we could build, imagine the end to all that haunts us as human beings through a fair system for all.  Upon realizing this, I was quick to forget about short-term profits and gains.  EOS is a response to a question; EOSIO may very well be the solution to that which brought about the problem requiring a monetary answer.  Suddenly I don’t care about dollars and cents in the least bit; I care about the vision of what could be.

We have the resources to feed, clothe, shelter, educate, and even “spoil” every man, woman, and child on Earth.  Now, I ask you, if the ideals you are chasing have never brought you true peace, what would you do with all the money in the world if there is no world left to spend it in, surrounded by people who have lost touch with humanity?

What will you do, wait for Ethereum to possibly fix gas fees so you can buy something built to cost you money (and likely designed & crafted poorly with only profits in mind) instead of singularly serving a purpose to technologies most extraordinary capability?

What if you could have more wealth by not requiring monetary assets or a circus of broken politics… what then?

Until that time comes, monetary gain remains to be a means to an end; but to what end; witnessing Bitcoin break $25,400 USD as I did just now as if that was some surprise to me?  Instead, I will make my money with EOS while supporting EOSIO and the principles passed down to me by some of the world’s greatest minds.

If we can build a better world, especially through blockchain technology, give me one good reason we shouldn’t that doesn’t involve more for you and less for everyone else.

Rest in peace, Jacque - this one is for you.

As always, comments, suggestions, and friendly debates are highly encouraged.

Stay smart & Stay safe this new year!
