I'm back! +what I did about Binance not getting MICA and last day of great OKX promotion

Long time no see... I wasn't active on the platform for over two years... a lot of things happened during this time[if you don't care about the details You can just skip to the first header]... (mostly) due to some misunderstanding between me and the university administration I by a hair failed to get my engineering degree, and had to resume my studies again starting from the sixth semester... fortunately with just one course (Mobile Apps, which I passed with an early prototype of my app that is basically... my reinterpretation of Minecraft Earth - though for obvious reasons wasn't explicitly called that) and now in the upcoming seventh semester I just have my engineering project to make and one course, which I will be able to pass with my CryptoPortfolioHelper app (though it's just a very basic version, and only an API). I will continue to develop both of them.

But I still struggle to find a new job, even though I was seeking also outside my profession... I got a short stint of working at McDonalds and it was... mostly fine (except the salary, commuting and the fact my heart ached seeing how much food is actually wasted there...) but still I think trying to balance it with my university work (especially regarding one quite work/time heavy course) was a mistake and made passing all the courses way harder...

My crypto portfolio also get neglected and depleted, as I had to support myself with these savings, sometimes at momentes I wouldn't normally sell... and most of the profits from my DCA experiment was consumed by daily expenses.

On the other hand I think I get a bit better with handling my depression... I definitely can't say I'm fully healead, and there are areas in which my problem seem to get even bigger (though I will definitely keep the details to myself)... and recently both my grandpa and shortly after my father died... it's barely a week since his burial and still there are some formalities to take care of... But together - me, my brother and mother - we somewhat handling it, not without support from family (even despite the fact, that most of it moved so far left that I sometimes feel alienated in my own family) and friends.

What will future brings? - for my blogs and portfolio

Despite some recent struggles I definitely plan to come back for longer. And I'm pretty confident this time for real. Last time I was talking to you about Web3 game Dragonia, and selling strategy for my DCA portfolio... and not all was really going according to plan, I will probably have to revide my strategy a bit... but even despite all the bad circumstances I'm still thinking that actually we DIDN'T really enter into a bear market and just have a very prolonged correction in the bull market. I can be wrong, for sure but... for me it doesn't really matter. I don't have funds to start accumulating again, and with the current prices... I preffer not to sell if I don't have to. But details for it will come soon (but not this kind of soon like it was in my previous announcements...) in great DCA experiment posts.

Because of that, and some recent developlemt regarding MICA regulations in UE (which affect me, as I live in Poland, which unfortunately is part of the UE...) you can except a lot of posts with analyzes of different crypto projects. I'm not sure yet if they would be part of great DCA experiment blog or not, as part of these analyzes would actually be aboud what coins to include for nex cycles. The coins that I definitely plan to include are all the coins already included in portfolio, some of other promising coins I found, but didn't include in Portfolio as it reached it's coin capacity, and coins from binance airdrops... not necessirely all. There would be quite a lot of them... enough to make posts daily for quite a few weeks.

I can't say for sure I will post daily (though that would be my maximum-plan), but I definitely plan to post at least once a week.

But it won't be just crypto posts, oh no. As I said some time ago I had plan on popculture/fandom-themed blog... I never gave up on this plans and have quite a lot in mind... things regarding modding(especially of Minecraft and Civilization V), fanfictions, theories, anime and animated series in general, games(both PC and Board)... there will really be quite a lot. The main thing that stopped me from it was actually that I wanted to make some research first to sort out some fundamental things first... but I think finally found an efficient way to do it. (I can't guarantee how fast it would exaclty be as for now my top priorities are finding new job, my CryptoPortfolioHelper and WorldMiner(aka MinecraftEarth 2.0) projects, finishing and publishing loot enhancing datapack for minecraft +sorting out some formalities regarding inheritance...)

And I consider to also star publishing pararely on Hive and some other plaform, to get a better reach.

Binance failing to get MICA license - my 'evacuation plan'

As many of you who either are in EU or just use Binance heard already it didn't get the license, which according to MICA regulations means that it can't serve customers in European Union's countries.

Which is quite a big deal, as Binance was always one of the biggest and most reliable exchanges, that was also relatively cheap, and has good incentives like airdrops etc.

And Europe wasn't exactly a small market, so losing it wasn't good for Binance. It's not they didn't tried to get the license (they would be stupid no to), they did try, but failed. Details are not known to me, I didn't checked it out exaclty, but somehow they withdraw their application last minutes when they tried to do it in Greece (MICA license can be issued by any EU country and it allow to serve clients from entire EU) - which seems weird to me, but maybe they already knew they would fail... (which seem to be the case according to AI)

Because it's not like they can't get the license later. They absolutely can, and I'm pretty sure they will eventually get the license, according of what I was able to learn, thanks to my quick AI research they even announced their target, which is France.

So it can happen in matter of months, but there are some issues Binance will have to face and solve around the way: like CZ reputation (Changpeng Zhao is not really liked in EU...) and money laundering allegations... I won't be judging her how much they are valid and how much Binance is actually to blame or if the EU reasons for disliking CZ are valid - it's not Binance review. BUT what I can say is that for me Binance was always a good exchange, and as a client I was satisfied with their services, and consider them rather trustworthy.

Then why I said about evacuation in the header? Frankly I initially didn't really planned to evacuate my funds. I wasn't planning on doing many transactions or exchange one crypto for the other or to just sell them... and even after the 1st June deadline it was still possible to withdraw funds or exchange them to EUR, PLN (Polish currency) or USDC. The only big cons were lack of earn products (though non-flexible stakings were NOT stopped, and I still have some ALGO, ATOM, AVAX, GRT and DOT locked in stacking) and not participating in binance airdrops with the BNB vault... so I would probably still kept most if not all my funds there...

If a more profitable alternative wouldn't arise I wouldn't probably move my Binance crypto. Because I didn't really feel need to. But it turned out OKX actually has a really great offer... so I moved most of my funds there. What's left is just the assets locked. I have withdraw some of my biggest allocations: BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, NEAR and ATOM. But with the rest (which were are under 30$ of value... well except LINK, which could beed send only via ethereum, which was quite expensive ~0.33$ ) I decided to exchange them to USDC and buy back on the OKX. Well not exaclty all of them, just the ones coming from My DCA portfolio, ones I recognized as good projects (like for example Celestia(TIA) or SUI) and some of the tokens from airdrops, that I selected based on IA research(and their avaibility on OKX), which were making value of at least... 0.05$ yeah, some were this low. Actually for some of the lowest I had to buy back a bit more to get to minimal trading vaolume on OKX... but it was around ~1$ at most. One that I bought back over double the amount costed me together... less than 0.5$ (animecoin, I had slightly over 70, and bought back 200 minus the transaction fee).

Generally I exchanged over 30 coins to USDC, with ~320$ value, in order to bought them back It doesn't seem like that small number, but still ~100$ of this value was made by just LINK and STX position. I placed order for each of the tokens to buy thme cheaper, so actually I bought back a tiny bit more of each. Or at least I hope I will as not all of my orders are fulfilled as of now.

And the airdrops coins that I choose are(in order of the value I had in these coins descending):

  • KAITO
  • PENGU
  • ETHFI
  • PENDLE
  • MORPHO
  • ANIME
  • WCT
  • SCR
  • BABY
  • SAHARA

I'm not saying I will buy more of any, but definitely I would be getting a closer look at all of them. And currently I got only 5 orders not fullfilled yet, and they are for:

  • KAITO
  • DOT
  • ADA
  • SUI
  • STX
  • KNC
  • CVX

OKX promotion - stagerring 8% bonus on deposits!

Yes, this is the promotion that made me decide to move some of my funds to OKX. Actually besides funds from Binance I also moved most from Coinbase as... this exchange really gone bad. Like terribly bad. Their fees can be absurdly hight - for example when my mom tried to exchange one of her old small position with 6$ value... the fee for that exchange was... ~3$! And withdrawal fee was over 6$ value, it wasn't enought to withdraw it. It may not be big value, but still it's practically a theft in my eyes. So as much as I will return to Binance I rather won't return to Coinbase.

I got over 3216€ deposit qualified which gave me 257,35€ bonus... the revard is paid in USDC with ratio assumed at 1€ = 1.12USD. Which mean I got 288,232 USDC bonus.

Deposit bonus

So the question that comes to any reasonable mind is "where's the catch?". And I admit there indeed is a catch but from my perspective is rather small.

The rewards are NOT paid out all at once, no they are actually paid out over 52 weeks (~full year) on weekly basis. Which is always inconvienience. As getting it all now and being able to buy Bitcoin for it would definitely increase the profitability.

But there's another issue. To get the reward you have to keep your deposits on the exchange(not really a problem for me - I would probably just be selling the crypto I keep in other places and keep my funds there for a year or at least most of it). The rules even mentioned the VALUE, which could probably mean that if you will keep the cryptos on the exchange, but their value will decrease... then your paid out reward will decrease too. But I must say it very clearly: this is more of my speculation than straight out fact, as I couldn't find direct confirmation or clarification. It could in theory mean that increase of assets value would mean increase of the reward but that seem unlikely. So maybe it's just a snapshot ov the value at moment of deposit and decrease can only happen by withdrawal...

There is also limit to it. For one user only upt to 250 000€ value at most can qualify, which corresponds to 20 000€ bonus. Which isn't by any means small limit, and for most rather wouldn't be an issue.

But that's pretty much it, I didn't find any other potential issues or risk regarding that promotion - but for your own safety you better check that out for yourselves.

And important note here: the 8% bonus on deposits ends on 31. July, so it's less than 2 full days left.

Other benefits on OKX

And the promotion while great, doesn't ezxhaust all the reason I decided to move these funds to OKX. There are two other big reasons.

First is the great quality of their earn products (which as I said weren't avaible at binance anymore) - they aren't avaible for all coins I deposited, but were avaible for most of my portfolio (by value) and for the coins I could put in flexible earn yearly interests they are:

  • 3% for BTC  (first 0.01BTC, then 0-1%, on my ~0,01278BTC it gives averaged APY of 2,92%)
  • 6% for ETH (first 0.2ETH, then 0-1%...  or the rest could just be put on other eran product with 2,74% - in my case on my ~0.72 ETH it gives averaged APY of 3,65%)
  • 4,19% for NEAR
  • 4,8% for SOL (which is changed to wrapped token: OKSOL, but it's paid out again in regular SOL on redeeming)
  • 3,42% for AVAX
  • 2,45% for POLYGON
  • 17,59%(!) for ATOM

These values are not forever though, and thay have 120 day time limit (not on all of them... I don't remember such thing mentioned anywhere for NEAR, ) and in general may change depending on borrowing demand (3% for BTC and 6% for ETH are guaranteed by promotion though)

The next thing are welcoming bonuses for new users. They're even up to 400€... but again there is 'small' catch here. They're based on amount you deposit and trading volume. The last part (200€) is paid out after depositing 2000€ and reaching 10 000€ of trading volume. Trading volume is the total value of your trades, and it's additive. Which means if you would buyy a crypto for 100€ then sell the same crypto for 100€ and then buy it again for 100€, then congratulation, you just made 300€ of trading volume. And loose a bit on fees in the process.

Not all of the bonuses require that big amounts though, here's the table with all treshold (this is not most up to date screenshot thought, I got the first treshold already but still miss almost all the remaining way to 2nd...)

And there are 2 other ways... one is just 10€ for depositing at least 10€. Easy and straight forward. There's also another one, but it require to get VIP accounts, which makes you elligible for getting the OKX crypto card. For payment, and with payback... which is generally a good thing, and according to their advertising the cashback can even be up to 10%. Which is a big deal and great thing on its own - back then on Binance I tended to send noticable part of my sallary just to exchange it into BUSD and use for regular payments to get back some BNB. And making 3 purchases with OKX card is a way to get another 10€.

So it is 380€ for deposit and trading volume, 10€ for just the deposit, and last 10€ for using their card.

Oh, and I'm not sure if these bonuses do actually work without refferal link, I got one from my mom (who was the one that found this 8% promotion) but you don't have to worry. I will gladly share mine with you: https://my.okx.com/en-eu/join/33933643 - you don't have to directly register from this link you can also just use my refferal code: 33933643.

...oh, and one more thing that I want to warn you against. Coinbase has seemingly similar promotion which seems even better than OKX 8%, but...

Coinbase %5 bonus on deposits in BTC - IT'S A TRAP!

I mean getting 5% bonus for your deposit  and getting it in BTC (which contrary to$/USDC will generally increase it's value and is now rather low) and just 5 days after promotion ends (which is at 3 august, so barely longer than OKX promotion) getting it all? That sounds just to perfect, isn't it?

Well, it's because it is. As I said it's practically a trap. This promotion is only for users with Coinbase One account... which have other benefits, sure, but the fees are so horrible, that paying 4,99€ a month, or 49,99€ for a year upfront just to get it good services and fees... that you can get for free on other exchanges isn't really worth it.

But wait, if the offer requires it then buying Coinbase One subscription just once and paid 5€, to then deposite over 100€ and get profit would be wise strategy, isn't it? No, it isn't. Here comes the biggest catch of them all: you have to both keep the funds you deposited and the bonus on your coinbase account (at least you can trade with them... but withdrawing would cause them to confiscate the bonus) until 3rd august 2028 (which means 2 years after the promotion ends) AND keep coinbase one subscription for this entire time(not doing it also would mean confiscating the bonus). Which means you practically have to paid for 2 years + 1 month of the subscription, thish is ~105€. So to be profitable you would have to deposit at the very least 2100€ worth of crypto or fiat. And that is just breaking even, and the inconvienience of having funds bound to exchange still remains...

So it feels much more like a scam tactic to make users buy the Coinbase One accounts but... if you have the Coinbase One account anyway, or can afford for a very big deposit(like seriously over 2100€) and don't mind having your funds bound to Coinbase (cause I don't know maybe you like having high fees or paying extra for having them small...) then this promotion may actually work out for you. Otherwise better use the one on OKX.

But remember - nothing here is financial advice, you are the one making your own decisions and all financial moves you're make are only your responsibility.
