From the Hall of 'Sad and Weird'... Not a great bit of news from the Consensus that is the Blockchain of humanity - Bad Day? Spare A Thought For Robert Alton Found Dead 6-Year's After Dying - How?
Oh my word, this is shocking my thoughtful friends... Let me tell you a story that will have you scratching your head and shaking your fists in anger. In early May 2023, something truly outrageous happened in the town of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. You ain't gonna believe this, but a man by the name of Robert Alton was discovered in a rented Housing Association home, six years after his death. You heard that right, SIX YEARS, man! And nobody seemed to give a flying monkey's about him!
Here's the kicker, the property is owned by the Housing Association Bolton at Home. That's right, a supposed 'Non-profit and Charity' Association - takes Lottery Funding and various Tax breaks - who bought the majority of old 'Council owned' property, and the very people who should have been checking on the property at least a couple of times a year. Bolton at Home and many others were seemingly neglecting him. It's enough to make you want to pull your own hair out in frustration... but is it all as it seems?
Look I ain't no expert in housing policies and procedures, but I'm sure it's common sense to check on your tenants once in a while, especially if they're living alone and vulnerable. All landlords gave a 'Duty of Care' in the U.K. to which Gas and Electric Safety Checks are supposed to be conducted yearly and separately. That's 12 potential visits apparently neglected and missed. But it's like they were living under a rock in all sense of the imagination! Six-years without so much of a peep, not even welfare checks, no family visits... not even from the landlord! Who was paying the rent? It's sad and terrible that someone can be found six years after dying because apparently nobody cared to check!
In a statement to local press, Bolton at Home CEO, Ms Sharpe said: "At the time (the policy) the view was we won't go for warrant to enter someone's home to disconnect the gas because it's possible to disconnect the gas without breaking into someone's home.
"Now the view is we will go for the warrant. To a degree it's in the hands of the court to make the judgment but we've decided it's better to be sure we've made absolutely every effort to get into the property."
The incident has shocked the local community, and freaked a lot of people out. Bolton at Home own over 18,000-properties in and around the town... just how many people are in the same situation living in rented (or owned) accommodation? Even just one more would be terrible.
In early May 2023, Bolton at Home decided after 6-years to serve a court warrant to gain access to the property with police officers... who drew a small crowd of locals who were shocked to see the door of a neighbour being smashed down by police - on entry the police and officials were net with a horrific discovery. The partially mummified and skeletal remains of poor Robert Alton...
Come on people - it's not like we're living in the stone age anymore... We live in a time where communication is faster than Usain Bolt on steroids. We've got technology that can connect us from opposite sides of the world with the click of a button. It's like we've become so invested in our own lives and our own problems, that we forget about our fellow humans. It's a damned tragedy, man!
For sure I know what some of you might be thinking, "Why should we care about some dead guy who nobody knew?" But let me ask you this, would you want to die alone and neglected in a dingy rented home? Would you want your family, friends or landlords to forget about you and your existence? It's a wake-up call to us all, to start giving a damn about each other... community is important... "we are shocked as a community" does not sit well with me - Where is the community? Why wait 6-years to knock a door down?
I'm not saying that we should all be snooping around each other's business, but a little bit of care and concern goes a long way. Humans are in fact one huge Blockchain Network, we can and should work together - It's like the old saying goes, "We're all in this together." And it's not just a saying, man. It's the truth. We may lead different lives, have different religions, come from different backgrounds, but we're all human beings with the same basic needs of love and belonging. It's high time we start acting like it... we have to address our own Moral Compass and get passed the... 'I don't want to seem like I am harassing folk' mentally.
So let's take a moment to remember Robert Alton, the man who was forgotten and neglected for six long years. Let's not let his death be in vain. Let's use it as a lesson to start caring about our fellow human beings. Let's start checking on those who live alone or are vulnerable. Let's start making a difference in people's lives, one small act of kindness at a time... it's our duty as humans.
In many aspects what has happened to Robert Alton is a tragedy - and certainly a wakeup call for us all. It's a reminder that we need to start caring about each other and checking on the vulnerable.
