Deep within my being
Burns a flame of indignation
Unextinguished fury
And absolute frustration
At what’s happened to my nation.
Needing to feel useful
So they don’t feel so alone
I rant on social media
Or blog or write a poem
On what’s happened to my home.
The pen’s deemed to be mighty
But I don’t feel Mightier Yet
We’ve sacrificed our children
And for this they won’t forget
How we were so inept.
Sorry just won’t cut it
It won’t turn back the tide
It won’t give them back their childhoods
Or soothe the tears they’ve cried
While they were so defiled.
So I’ll simmer in my weakness
In my anger and my shame
I’ll wrestle with my helplessness
‘Gainst those who brought you pain
And pray strength we’ll all regain.
For when they chose to hurt you
They hurt us one and all
And our overlords, complicit
Refused to hear your calls
We won’t forget their gall.
A nation bruised not beaten
Will rise and pass the test
And if government can’t protect you
We know who’ll do it best
The guilty will know no rest.
