Aurory: Predicting the Income

Aurory: Predicting the Income

By LazyToaster | What's On My Mind? | 9 May 2023

Last week I talked about the initial investment needed to get into two different crypto-based games: Aurory and Star Atlas. If you haven’t read it, you can check it out here. Today, I’ll only be focusing on Aurory and just how much money you can expect to make from playing it.

Is it worth the time investment to dive into Aurory? That depends on a few factors.

  • Amount of AUR staked

  • How often you battle other players

  • How often you win those battles

  • If you are battling with free Nefties or normal ones

  • If you are able to do expeditions

There is a planned adventure mode that will serve as a single player, story focused mode where you can earn Nefties and other items, but that’s not currently available. Two other aspects that I will also be ignoring are the competitive events and the expeditions. The competitive events are not a consistent part of the game and the expeditions require you to spend a ridiculous amount of money for just one Aurorian, let alone a team of them.

In order to establish our expectation, let’s go over all the factors. Please note that I will be ignoring the earning of TOKE because it is far less than what you’ll earn with OKA. If you’re unfamiliar with the currency or have forgotten, here’s a quick rundown:

  • AUR is the native currency of the game

  • OKA is what you earn by battling with paid/earned/invested Nefties

  • TOKE is what you earn by battling with free Nefties

  • OKA and TOKE are converted into AUR every week based on a formula that I’ll cover just below

Let’s assume you’ve bought any 3 Nefties from the marketplace and that you’re very passionate about using up all of their Okanergy (stamina for Nefties it seems) every day. Each Nefty has 10 Okanergy to spend each day, which is 1 per battle regardless if you win or lose the matches. Let’s assume, just for the sake of numbers, you win half the battles you attempt every day you play and you play 5 days a week. For each battle won, you’ll get 125 OKA per paid Nefty you used. That means 375 OKA per battle won with a full team of paid Nefties. You should also note that when a Nefty runs out of Okanergy that you can still battle with them, but they’ll earn TOKE instead of OKA. This essentially treats them as free Nefties. Let’s lay this all out.

0558e33d0f2a906a22c0d8e8df5ef8d887fba0a9f5379c8b54b5b7db040d9862.png

If you win a battle, you can expect 125 OKA per invested Nefty!

(125 OKA x 3 Nefties) x (10 battles – 5 battles lost) x 5 days a week played

=

9,375 OKA earned per week

How does this translate to AUR? The amount is not a set amount because the developer distributes some amount to the pool each week depending on market performance of AUR. This is their way to combat sudden fluctuations in price. The conversion process itself is explained in their own article on Substack, which you can read here: https://open.substack.com/pub/aurory/p/aurory-play-and-own-reward-loop-explained?r=2abn6p&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Let’s take their formula to figure out just how much AUR you’d earn from that 9,375 OKA. This is where things can vary, but I’ll use probable numbers to get a reasonable expectation of how much you can make. Since part of the equation uses the total OKA earned by players in the week, we’ll say that 999 other people were active this week and, with all your efforts combined, 8,000,000 OKA was earned among all of you. We’ll also assume that the developer will hand out 10,000 AUR to the community pool for the week.

(9,375 OKA earned by you ÷ 8,000,000 OKA earned by you and community) x (10,000 AUR for community x 0.6 distribution ration for OKA)

=

7.03125 AUR

Let’s convert that to real money:

7.03125 AUR * $0.5297 current rate of AUR = $3.724453125 for the week

Could it be worse? Sure. Could it be better? Absolutely. The reward is dictated by how many matches you win in a week, how many matches other players win, and how much AUR the developers put in the pool for the week. You could have more than 3 invested Nefties, win more than 5 matches a day, or maybe the developers hand out more AUR for a given week. Of course there’s the other side, the one where you don’t win many matches at all despite your effort. Combine that with a smaller AUR handout for a week and you won’t have much to show for it after the conversion.

Staking your AUR is another way to earn and can be a good passive income if you’re willing to invest enough. Let’s say that you want to buy 500 AUR and stake in in the flexible staking pool. At the time of writing this, the 500 AUR will cost you $267.15 ($0.5343 per AUR). Staking that in the pool at 9% APR at hourly compounded interest means:

500 initial AUR * (1 + (0.09 interst rate / 8,760 hours interest applied per one year) ^ (8,760 hours * 1 year) = 547.08688892

547.08688892 AUR after 1 year – 500 initial AUR = 47.08688892 AUR profit

47.08688892 AUR profit * $0.5343 AUR rate

=

$25.15852475 profit earned after 1 year

Remember that this is compound interest, so it’ll grow based on what the balance is each interval (every hour in this case). You should also know that while you can always unstake your AUR at any time, the time it would take to earn back the amount you put in is over 10.5 years (divide your initial investment by your profit each year). So what if you add this to your match earnings for the year?

$3.724453125 * 52 estimated weeks in the year = $193.6715625

$193.6715625 match earnings per year + $25.15852475 staked earnings per year

=

$218.83008725… round that to $218.83 per year

That’s not bad for playing a game. Of course, the number can be different depending on the all the factors mentioned and the price of AUR. Could you quit your 9 to 5 job by playing this game? I would say that it is possible if you staked enough AUR in the pool and turned the game into your new 9 to 5. At that point though, I would argue that it’s not really a life improvement since most of your time would still be taken up by the game. Maybe you don’t have an issue with that though?

If you’d like to check the game out for yourself, this is my refferal: aurory.io/?ref=rc-e48yrZVwx3HSFOg

If you found this information helpful or interesting, don’t forget to show some love by following my work! Next week I will be doing a breakdown for Star Atlas.

EDIT 5/10/23: I have discovered that you can earn more than 125 OKA per battle. It seems there is a bonus depending on either your win streak or how many battles you’ve won that day. At this time I do not know what it is for sure, but the highest amount I’ve earned is 159 OKA per Nefty. See the photo below.

It seems you can earn more OKA. My opponent had quit the match shortly after it started.
