I'm sure you have encountered multiple services that request phone verification - such as Gmail, Whatsapp, Viber and so on. There are also some crypto related projects that are asking for phone number. Sometimes having having additional number might bring you bigger profit by just having one extra account. Anyway, I'm sure you got my point by now.

• There are some websites that offer such phone numbers for free, but sadly those are rarely usable, unless you are among the first that try them. There are normally two reasons why such numbers are not working when you try them they were already used for this particular service by someone else and the service only allows one number per account;
• because many providers do not accept Virtual/VOIP numbers to be used for registrations.
