In the quiet town of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the Thompson family had recently moved into an old Victorian home. They were excited to spend their first Halloween in the house, which had a creaky charm that felt perfect for the season. The Thompsons decorated the porch with carved pumpkins and a scarecrow they'd found at a local antique store, thinking it would add an old-fashioned touch to the decorations.
But as Halloween night drew closer, strange things began happening around the house. The scarecrow, which they named "Charlie" for fun, seemed to shift positions. At first, they assumed it was the wind or one of the kids moving it as a joke. But no one admitted to touching Charlie. Neighbors, passing by, would even stop and say the scarecrow looked "creepy," joking that it could "come to life" at any moment.
Finally, Halloween night arrived, and the neighborhood kids came by for candy. One of the children, a little girl named Mia, stared at Charlie and whispered to her mother that he was “looking” at her. Her mom laughed it off, thinking her daughter was just spooked by the Halloween decorations.
After all the trick-or-treaters had left, the Thompsons were ready to call it a night. But as they were getting ready for bed, they heard a scraping sound outside, like something scratching against the porch. Mr. Thompson grabbed a flashlight and carefully opened the door, only to find Charlie, the scarecrow, lying face-down on the porch steps, his head twisted at an unnatural angle.
Thinking someone might have played a Halloween prank, Mr. Thompson set Charlie back in his spot and locked the door. But the scraping sound started again a few minutes later, louder this time. This time, when he opened the door, Charlie was gone.

The family looked everywhere around the property, but there was no sign of Charlie. They stayed up all night, but he never reappeared. The next morning, they decided to call the antique store where they’d bought Charlie to ask if they knew anything about its past. The store owner told them it had come from a farmhouse just outside of Carlisle, where a farmer had once disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
The Thompsons were shaken by the story and never did see Charlie again. Some say he wanders the streets of Carlisle every Halloween, looking for a new porch to haunt. To this day, if you walk around the neighborhood late at night, you might just catch a glimpse of an old scarecrow lurking in the shadows.
