A Real Halloween Story - The Forgotten Costume

In a small town, every Halloween was a big event. There was this one house, though, always silent and dark, where an old woman named Edna lived. She had once loved Halloween but had stopped celebrating after a tragic event.

One year, a young boy named Tommy decided he'd get Edna to participate in the festivities. He chose to dress up in a costume that was an exact replica of Edna's late husband, George, who had passed away on Halloween night ten years prior due to a sudden heart attack while handing out candy.

On Halloween night, Tommy knocked on Edna's door, wearing the costume, hoping to bring back happy memories. When Edna opened the door, her face turned ashen. There was her husband, or so it seemed, standing right in front of her. But something was off; the eyes were too vacant, the smile too static.

Edna screamed, thinking it was some cruel prank or perhaps her husband's spirit. But then, the figure didn't move or speak. Curiosity overcame fear, and she touched the face, only to feel cold, lifeless silicone.

Tommy had found an old Halloween mask of George that Edna had made years ago for a costume party, not realizing the impact it would have. The shock was too much; Edna retreated inside, leaving the door ajar.

The next morning, the town found the costume abandoned on Edna's porch, but Tommy was nowhere to be seen. Rumors swirled that Edna, in her distress, had done something unthinkable or that Tommy had run off, scared by his own prank gone wrong.

But here's the twist: every Halloween since, at the stroke of midnight, some claim to see a figure walking through the fog, wearing George's face, searching for something—perhaps forgiveness, or maybe just to reclaim his forgotten costume from Edna's house, where it now hangs in the window, as both a decoration and a warning.

And Edna? She was never the same, always whispering to the shadows on Halloween night, apologizing to the air, haunted by the costume that brought back not just memories, but the spectral presence of her beloved George.
