Pett.ai Confirms Shutdown as Its Digital Pets Go Offline on September 7

Pett.ai is shutting down its digital pet ecosystem, with the platform scheduled to go offline on September 7, 2026.

The studio announced on August 22 that it would wind down operations within a few weeks. In its farewell message, the team thanked the PettBros, creators, supporters, and partners who had been part of the project, saying that its little purple digital pets would “go to sleep” on September 7.

However, the announcement did not explain what will happen to player assets, the AIP token, or the project’s on-chain contracts after the shutdown.

What Pett.ai Built

Pett.ai was an AI-powered blockchain game built on Base, combining digital pet care with mini-games, competitive modes, and a token-based economy.

Players could feed, entertain, and care for their pets, with neglect potentially resulting in the loss of a pet. The game featured more than 10 mini-games, PvP modes, and large-scale Guild Wars.

AI was at the center of the project. Pett.ai integrated five large language models to create pets capable of learning, adapting, and evolving through player interaction rather than relying entirely on scripted responses.

The ecosystem also included image generation, crypto research tools, smart notifications, and plans for an AI Agent Factory.

Its economy was managed through what the project called an AI Central Bank, which attempted to control reward emissions using real-time inflation adjustments instead of a fixed emission schedule.

PettBro: The AI Agent

One of Pett.ai’s most notable products was PettBro, launched on December 18, 2025.

PettBro functioned as an autonomous AI agent capable of caring for a user’s digital pet. It could select care actions and execute multiple on-chain transactions each day, allowing the pet to remain active even when its owner was offline.

The agent was released through Pearl, an AI agent marketplace powered by Olas, and became the first agent from the Olas Accelerator team to be published on the platform.

PettBro was designed to make blockchain technology largely invisible to users. Players could sign in with Google or Apple, use traditional debit or credit cards, and rely on automated wallet and bridging processes without needing extensive blockchain knowledge.

The concept highlighted one of Pett.ai’s biggest ambitions: making AI agents and Web3 applications accessible beyond experienced crypto users.

The AIP Token

The project’s ecosystem was powered by AIP, a token running on Base.

AIP had a maximum supply of 500 million tokens, with approximately 472.13 million in total supply and around 349.51 million circulating. Much of its trading activity centered around the AIP/WETH pair on Aerodrome.

The token’s price history tells a very different story from the project’s ambitions.

AIP reached an all-time high of approximately $0.04323 on January 22, 2025. It subsequently experienced a prolonged decline, eventually reaching an all-time low of approximately $0.00009822 on June 26, 2026.

Around the time of the shutdown announcement, AIP was trading near $0.0001584, with a market capitalization of roughly $55,300 and 24-hour trading volume of about $1,364.

That represents a decline of approximately 99.6% from its all-time high.

What Pett.ai’s Shutdown Shows

Pett.ai’s closure reflects a broader challenge facing Web3 gaming.

Many blockchain games have struggled with the same cycle: an early surge of attention, a token price spike, declining player activity, falling token demand, and eventually reduced resources for continued development.

What made Pett.ai interesting was not simply its token economy, but the technology it attempted to combine.

Autonomous AI agents, on-chain gameplay, AI-managed economic systems, and traditional payment options represented genuine attempts to address some of the biggest problems facing blockchain gaming.

But innovative technology alone could not overcome the project’s underlying economic challenges.

The AI-agent concept remains particularly relevant. PettBro demonstrated how an autonomous agent could perform actions for a player inside a blockchain game, potentially pointing toward a broader model where AI handles routine Web3 activities on behalf of users.

What Happens Next?

For Pett.ai players, the most important date is September 7, 2026.

The studio has confirmed that the digital pet ecosystem will shut down on that date, but it has not yet published detailed instructions regarding player assets, AIP tokens, NFTs, or on-chain contracts.

Anyone holding assets within the Pett.ai ecosystem should therefore pay close attention to any further announcements from the team before the shutdown date.

Pett.ai may be going offline, but the ideas behind the project—particularly AI agents interacting with blockchain games—are likely to continue appearing across the wider Web3 gaming industry.
