The perception of extreme views held by the opposing side often hinders progress on contentious issues. Building trust and understanding that most people do not hold the most extreme positions associated with their political camp can help bridge divides. Recognizing the complexity and nuance in individuals' identities and political outlooks can contribute to a more constructive and united society. Restoring trust and reducing fear between factions is crucial for the well-being of America's democracy.
