According to a government spokesman, Poland is set to block the migration and asylum pact adopted by the Council of the EU and aims to form a coalition of opponents. During its recent meeting, the Council agreed on a negotiation position regarding asylum procedure and migration management regulations. Poland and Hungary were the only countries to vote against the decision. The adopted position includes a mandatory solidarity mechanism, where countries refusing asylum quotas can provide a financial contribution instead.

However, Poland opposes receiving asylum seekers and making financial contributions, considering the latter as a punishment for non-compliance. Poland plans to build a coalition in the EU Parliament against the agreed solutions, and if the pact comes into force, it will not fulfill its commitments. The anti-EU Sovereign Poland party, a junior coalition partner, also opposes forced migrant relocation and plans to submit a draft resolution to the Polish parliament expressing opposition.

As Slovakia's snap election approaches in September, several political parties struggle to secure the required 5% threshold, risking wasted votes. The deadline for parties to merge under a joint name has passed, leading to concerns about fragmentation. The leading party in the polls, Smer, has a history of corruption investigations and proposes significant shifts in foreign policy. The formation of a pro-Western government depends on smaller parties surpassing the 5% threshold, but many are confident in running independently. Previous voting failures due to mergers highlight the potential for wasted votes. The only remaining option for parties to unite is for one party's candidates to run under another party's name. The deadline for candidate lists is July 2nd.
