His group hacked into local media and called for support, accusing Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu of treason. In a Saturday address, Putin acknowledged the threat and promised punishment for those betraying Russia.

The tensions leading to this crisis have been growing for months, marked by Prigozhin's complaints about ammunition shortages and failures in military operations. Prigozhin rejected Shoigu's orders and openly criticized Putin's leadership. Putin, however, has not distanced himself from Shoigu and has maintained a positive outlook on the war. Prigozhin's latest accusations have challenged the pretext of the war, arguing that it was a contrived affair orchestrated by corrupt officers and oligarchs.

The nature of the current events in Russia is not easily defined.
