Tomorrow users of Norton's early adopter program will get a new mining feature to Norton 360 Antivirus called "Norton Crypto".
“As the crypto economy continues to become a more important part of our customers’ lives, we want to empower them to mine cryptocurrency with Norton, a brand they trust,” said Vincent Pilette, CEO of NortonLifeLock. “Norton Crypto is yet another innovative example of how we are expanding our Cyber Safety platform to protect our customers’ ever-evolving digital lives.” (1)
Norton Crypto will be using the PC/Mac graphics card (GPU) to mine for Ethereum and then be stored in you own Norton wallet (hot wallet).
I believe this to be an interesting move by a big company such as Norton. I'm a long term fan of Brave Browser which rewards it’s users and gives you as the user a opportunity to tip sites of your choosing.
My only concerns are, how will this impact climate change and will it tax your GPU to such an extent that it will shorten your GPUs life or mining can cause problems with your local the tax authorities.
Could we see similar things in the future, or is Norton just trying to get their slice of the pie?
