Tree mushrooms (or polypores) are so common that we often do not even pay attention to them. At times, though, they can be quite pretty.
These photos are from last weekend when there were still quite few mushrooms in the forest. Still, I found a pretty big tree mushroom with beautiful colours and even more beautiful raindrops collected on its bottom surface.
There was an insect that really looks like a mosquito but it was not aggressive. Maybe it was simply feeling too cold. Finally most mosquitos are gone!
There seems to be a second one coming underneath.
Polypores grow on tree bark and decay the wood.
I believe the species is Fomitopsis pinicola. According to the Wikipedia article, it prefers coniferous trees, but I think this was a broad-leaved tree.
Later, I found a small white mushroom - just like a button. I like the spiky surface. It might be some kind of a puffball.
This one was lying right next to it, but I am not sure if the species is the same. I was not the one who uprooted it.
And the last photo for today is quite unusual. I have seen these bead-like organisms before. I believe they are slime mould, though, so they are not fungi. This Trichia varia looks very similar.
