The Dragon Egg

This was a nice place a few years ago. Lakes, streams, dense forests.

Now, no matter where you look everything is seared. Black.

What was sand has been fused into glass.

Rock outcroppings in the mountains are crumbling because of intense heat.

You'd think that this was the after effects of some nuclear war, but it's not.

A few kids in the village on the other side of the mountain range got a wild idea that they were sure would make them rich and bring them lots of fame.

All it did, though was to cause pain.

This because they had stolen the last surviving dragon egg.
