The dark forest path (5 minute freewrite)

She was not as much a warrior bride as she was a bride that was forced to be a warrior.

The invaders had come through and killed many of her people and she was now wending down the dark forest path late at night in search of them.

The aircraft that flew just over treetop level looking for her sounded like TIE fighters from some old forgotten movie.

If she ever found the base camp of the ones that had destroyed her village, they would pay dearly.

She crept silently along listening for the telltale signs of others - the sudden halting of crickets, birds disturbed from their slumber, branches breaking nearby or twigs cracking on the ground.

She was close. She could see firelight shadows dancing in the canopy in the distance. This was probably a poorly manned outpost of the invaders.

She only hoped that she would have the intestinal fortitude to do the deed that she had set out for.
