In Hawaii, there are palm trees all over the place. Well not really.
They must like living close to the ocean. Everywhere else there is mesquite or iron wood or kuu or plumería or any of several species. I've even seen coffee trees on Oahu. They do, in fact produce beans, but the flavor is horrible due to the low elevation there.
When at a roadside park one day, I saw some guys from Honolulu county trimming up the palms. They were putting the coconuts separate from the fronds.
I asked what they were doing with the coconuts.
"Selling them to tourists at the flea market."
That was ingenious. Get paid to trim the trees then take part of what you trimmed to sell to tourists. They're an easy mark. You can sell anything to tourists.
