Alot of eyebrows were raised at the end of last month, when Anatoly Yakovenko, announced "Saga," the first crypto focused mobile phone (run on Solona of course). If you didn't catch enough of that news, you can read my article about Saga here.
However, the announcement of the "Desire 22 Pro" launch early last week seemed to go under the radar. Rather than being created exclusively for a singlular blockchain Venture, such as the Saga with Solona, the Desire 22 Pro will include support and built in applications for Ethereum and Polygon.
HTC is a Taiwanese based consumer electronics company. HTC previously launched VIVERSE, a metaverse ecosystem which lives on the Ethereum blockchain. HTC initially released the Vive VR Flow Headset, (retailing for around $500) to connect to Viverse; the Desire 22 Pro will be an addition to this ecosystem. Users will be able to experience the same network without using the headset; as stated, the phone additionally supports the Ethereum and Polygon networks, complete with a Viverse wallet for fungible and non-fungible crypto currencies.
Apparently, purchases of the HTC Desire Pro 22 will come with a free NFT. The Desire Pro will retail comparable to the Vive Flow Headset; that is $499. Preorders for the Desire 22 Pro can be placed here.
According to Android Authority, this phone comes with mid range specs- 6.6-inch FHD+ 120Hz screen (presumably LCD), Snapdragon 695 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and 4,520mAh battery with 18W wired charging.
HTC has a history of alleged copycatting- their original line of phones was based off of Windows Mobile, ; in 2010 they were sued by Apple for copyright infringement based on the underlying architecture of the iPhone. This phone does not appear to be a copycat, but, neither does it appear to be wholly original. The phone virtually offers nothing exclusive, except combining existing features on a mobile device.
I appreciate the development, but I won't be buying this phone. Viverse does not interest me, nor does any centralized corporate project selling tech on web 3 infrastructure interest me. But, I'm special.
