Here are all the useful tips:
Santa Cruz is the capital of the island, a lovely town to stop for a couple of hours.
Its balconies on the seafront are truly to be admired, full of plants and flowers become a truly original feature of the city. Take calle real and from here go up in the upper part of the town, up to Plaza Santo Domingo, and then stop for a coffee at the "Cafè Cimennon". In Santa Cruz I was staying at the Cubana Pension, authentic, original, clean, cheap and very central, with a super welcoming staff. Near Santa Cruz, a few km from the airport, there is a too nice restaurant that you should not miss, whose name is "Casa Goyo", where you can eat fresh fish in the original fishermen's houses!
The coast from Santa Cruz to Fuencaliente is really beautiful and stop at what they call Playa Blanca, a small pepper and salt-colored beach overlooked by the village of Salamera… .it deserves a stop!
Fuencaliente, here a visit to the center of Volcan San Antonio (5 Euro entrance) is a must, after which take the path that goes down to the lighthouse and the salt pans, crossing the Teneguìa volcano. There are about 6.5 km of trekking and once you arrive at your destination you can take the bus that takes you back to the village.
Charco verde is a really beautiful beach, there is also the possibility to rent sunbeds and umbrellas.
the very best to do:
RIFUGIO PILAR, is located in the central part of the island and from here starts the famous RUTA DE LOS VOLCANES, which reaches Fuencaliente in 17.4 km. The trek is beautiful demanding and if you are not determined and a minimum of training is not suitable. The path winds along a wonderful ridge, giving you the feeling of being in Paradise, above a bed of clouds, from which you can also see the Teide of Tenerife emerging in the distance. Then arrive at the Pilar refuge, leave your car here and walk; the adventure lasts about 6 hours, bring food and water because you will not find anything along the way, once you arrive in Fuencaliente, I recommend taking a bus to Los Llanos and then from here a taxi that will take you back to the refuge to recover the car.
Los Llanos, a town with a lively and very pretty old town, where I discovered LAUREL DE INDIAS, a beautiful tree with a huge trunk. Stop to eat ice cream at the "GELATERIA"! Excellent Italian quality, which after a hot afternoon puts you back into the world!
If you pass through Las Manchas there is a too beautiful little square called the Glorieta plaza, whose style reminds Guadì, an obligatory stop.
Near Los Llanos and las Manchas there is the Mirador del Time which opens on a beautiful barranco !!
From here if you go down a little south you will arrive in Tazacorte, where the temperature is constant all year round, 23 fixed degrees and almost always sunny. The town is divided into two: the upper part overlooking the sea and the banana plantations and the lower part that opens onto the harbor, the promenade and the beach where you can relax. Here go to eat at "la casa del mar", excellent for fish!
Near Tazacorte there is playa los Guirres, perhaps the longest on the island, it deserves!
If instead of going up from the mirador del Time to the north you will arrive in Tijarafe, a village located along the road, to be discovered by parking the car and taking a walk in the highest part. Taking the car instead, go down to PORIS DE CANDELARIA, a village of small houses inside a recess in the rock that seems almost carved out of the sea, where the islanders take refuge in the summer to escape the Calima. It has a charm from Neruda's poetry and a peace that almost moves.
ROQUE DE LOS MUCHACOS, one of the most beautiful places I have seen in the world, the highest part of the island, 2426 meters, from which you have the feeling of being really small in the presence of what surrounds us. Here you will find among the most important astronomical observatories in the world and if you are experts in the field you can also indulge in the magic of a guided tour inside one of them. Then go to the two miradors, one after the other, which open onto the Caldera de Taburiente and take all the time you want to let your eyes get lost on the world.
Puntagorda, go towards the port, not before having eaten at the restaurant "El pino de la Virgen", leave the car where the road ends and walk down the steps that go down to the sea ... the houses built on that coast so harsh and violent traits convey all the quiet in full contrast to the mighty force of the Atlantic waves breaking on the rocks.
Here we are in the north, where the most beautiful attractions are Las Piscinas de las Fajana, swimming pools carved into the rock that allow you the luxury of a peaceful bath in the Atlantic Ocean and the Bosque de los Tilos, where you enter South America instantly . In this area, the coast is very beautiful, stop in San Andres and Charco Azul, to take a nice walk along the sea.
