Suizenji Garden in Kumamoto

No time to hike Mount Fuji? No problem. At the charming Suizenji Garden in Kumamoto City, you will be greeted by the sight of an immaculately manicured miniature Mount Fuji. History buffs will be thrilled to know that this garden replicates the 53 post stations of the Tokaido which connected Tokyo with Kyoto during the Edo era. Hence, the mini Mount Fuji.

The best way to take in the myriad sights is taking a leisurely stroll, meandering along a circular path that will let you get up close with a shrine, a Noh stage, a bridge, among other charming features. I was lucky enough to visit this garden several times. Most times, I just absorbed its tranquility and allowed my roaming thoughts to settle at ease. But there was one time where I witnessed an exciting horse archery event. Archers would gallop down the path and shoot arrows swiftly and accurately - a sight that is sure to send shivers down your spine!
